Oh, you're in for a treat! Making vegan Nutella at home is not only super fun but also way healthier than the store-bought version. Plus, you get to brag about your culinary skills. Ready to dive in? Here’s a simple recipe:

vegan nutella

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of hazelnuts

  • 2-3 tablespoons of cocoa powder (depending on how chocolatey you want it)

  • 1/2 cup of powdered sugar or any sweetener of your choice (maple syrup works too!)

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • A pinch of salt

  • 2-3 tablespoons of a neutral oil (like sunflower or coconut oil)

  • Optional: A splash of plant-based milk (like almond or oat milk) if you want it creamier

Instructions to make vegan nutella:

  1. Roast the Hazelnuts:Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the hazelnuts on a baking sheet and roast them for about 10-15 minutes, or until they’re golden brown and fragrant. Keep an eye on them so they don’t burn!

  2. Remove the Skins:Once roasted, let the hazelnuts cool a bit. Then, place them in a clean kitchen towel and rub them together to remove most of the skins. Don’t worry if some skins remain; it’s all good!

  3. Blend the Hazelnuts:Pop the hazelnuts into a food processor or high-speed blender. Blend until they turn into a smooth butter. This might take a few minutes, and you might need to scrape down the sides occasionally.

  4. Add the Good Stuff:Once you have a smooth hazelnut butter, add the cocoa powder, powdered sugar (or sweetener), vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Blend again until everything is well combined.

  5. Adjust the Texture:Add the oil one tablespoon at a time, blending in between, until you reach your desired consistency. If you want it even creamier, add a splash of plant-based milk.

  6. Taste Test:Give it a taste and adjust the sweetness or chocolate level if needed. Blend again if you add anything.

  7. Store:Transfer your homemade vegan Nutella to a jar and store it in the fridge. It should last for a couple of weeks, but let’s be real, it’ll probably be gone way before that!

Enjoy!

Spread it on toast, dip fruits in it, or just eat it by the spoonful. No judgment here! And hey, by making it yourself, you’re skipping out on all those unnecessary additives and palm oil. High five for being awesome and kind to the planet!
